Wading through ancient tunnels

In the so-called City of David, just south of the Old City of Jerusalem, there are some ancient underground water channels hewed out of the rock. Suffering from the sweltering heat, we thought these might be a perfect Sunday outing.

Together with our Swedish friend Anna, Femke and me ventured underground. Unfortunately we were not alone, the place was swamped by soldiers on a tour and American-Jewish tourists. Nevertheless, it was very interesting to wade through the still functioning and more than 500 meter long tunnel, cool water streaming around my feet. It is fascinating that the tunnel was probably dug 2700 years ago.

Afterwards, we had a walk in the Silwan area and then in the Old City, lunching on a bagel with salmon.
