Visiting clinic in the south

One of the things that gives me great pleasure with my part time job at ANERA is the field visits. Today, Femke me and our colleagues Diane and Mohammed went to the little village Beit Awwa, west of Hebron. Here, there is a small municipal health clinic, servicing the villagers with health care.
ANERA is supporting the clinic in many ways. Through the Hanan project, the staff receives vital training, as well as medical equipment and medicines. And through our EWAS program, the clinic got a safer and cleaner water supply, water heaters, more toilets and hand basins. Basic things like this greatly enhance the possibilities for the staff to run the clinic in a good way, providing quality health care with high hygiene standards

One of the beneficiaries we met was Haijar Masalmeh (see photo). Despite only being 51, she has problems with her blood pressure and her joints. But when you learn that she has been pregnant 21 times and is a mother of 13, you are surprised by her vitality and charmed by her beautiful smile. Meetings like this really make my day. Things like the hospitality dinner afterwards, with mansaff on the menu (boiled goat on a bed of rice) you have to take in the stride…
