The day after, Femke and me visited a preschool that received support from ANERA. Two of the teachers are part of a training program that ANERA runs (normally, preschool teachers receives no training whatsoever here). And all the children get a portion of enriched chocolate milk and fortified biscuits everyday through another ANERA program. The Milk for preschoolers (as the program is called) serves a many as 25.000 children in Gaza. That is a great achievement, and dearly needed, as malnourishment is widely spread.
The woman on the photo is Khitam, one of the teachers being trained. As you can see, Gaza is very conservative compared to the West Bank. In Gaza, almost all women bear a headscarf and many of them cover their face as well. No alcohol is served or sold anywhere and the cinemas and nightclubs were closed years ago.
