Visiting Taybeh Brewery

Taybeh is the only Palestinian beer. It is also one of the best beers brewed in the Middle East. During our stay here, we have been enjoying their lovely Golden beer. Today, I decided to pay this family run brewery a visit.

The beer is named after the hometown Taybeh, which is the sole remaining Christian town in Palestine (situated Northeast of Ramallah). Started in 1994 by the Khoury family, it is one of the few success stories of Palestine. And of the Khourys. Nadim (picture above) is the Brew master and boss on the brewery. His brother David is the mayor of the town Taybeh, but works for the brewery as well. As does the sister Buthina, when she does not produce documentary films. Several of their kids contribute as well.

And the brewery contributes to the society, creating jobs, pride and visitors. Now, they even have an October Festival. When they held it for the first time last year, 8000 people came to try out the local produce (olive oil, honey and of course the beer). The falafel guy on the square sold a year worth of falafels on one day. This year (16-18 September), they are hoping for even more visitors.
