Fun & Sun in Eilat

This weekend, we escaped the extremism of Jerusalem and took the bus to lazy and laidback Eilat on the Red Sea coast. Saturday, we snorkelled along the little coral reef here and just enjoyed the beach life. This was the first time Femke snorkelled in a proper place, and despite being so afraid of fish that she finds even fish sticks scary, she overcame her fear and marvelled at the colours of the ocean and it’s inhabitants.

Sunday we went to Dolphin reef, a place where captured dolphins lives behind nets in the sea. I don’t like the idea of it, but they do have a rather big and deep area to play around in and they can hunt themselves if they want to, since the net allows smaller fishes in and out.
I suppose this is the closest most people will ever get to see dolphins in their natural habitat. I am probably very spoiled, having played with wild dolphins in the sea on numerous occasions. Nevertheless, it was fun to play with one of these dolphins as well.

Today, Femke will go to Ramallah for yet another meeting. And tomorrow I am going to Hebron to meet with some people from the International observation mission there, called TIPH.

Pictures here.
