Our second concert at the ongoing music festival in Eastern Jerusalem was with Nigel Kennedy. We had a vague idea about him being a famous classic violinist.
That is true. But he is also known as the punk kid within the classical scene, and the performance tonight was definitely more jazz, blues and rock, albeit played classical tools.
He managed to cram an amazing array of sounds out of his electric violin. Meanwhile, a cat passed by behind the crowd, casting a huge shadow on the stage. And behind the stage, a bat with a wingspan of at least half a meter woke up and came flying out from the ancient grave. The floodlight on the stage provided good hunting grounds, so it took several gothic swoops over thee band. Nigel just played on, cracking funny jokes in between.
Above us, the moon was shining and the stars twinkling. To the right, a man was sitting on his garden wall, high above us, smoking his water pipe and enjoying the free show.
So did we!
